I'd like to add the following to the growing list of A56 junctions which pose particular dangers (Dad’s Call for Action, SAM February 4), all within a one-mile stretch in Altrincham and Broadheath.

Woodlands Road (A560): Two sides of the junction have no pedestrian phase, despite being a major pedestrian route to access a primary school.

Oldfield Road: Absolutely no provision for pedestrians at all, despite this being a road leading to a large residential area.

Barrington Road: As with the above, pedestrians have to play Russian roulette, hoping that turning cars are indicating correctly. ‘Wait for a gap’, you might say, but they'll be waiting all day.

There's the added hazard posed by so many buses turning at this junction, too.

Sinderland Road: Despite being another road serving a primary school, and also being a crossing-point for those using the southbound bus stop, there is no pedestrian phase. Drivers eager to catch the right-turn filter even accelerate towards the junction.

I suspect any other stretch of this road will have just as many problems.

‘There's no history of accidents at that junction’ will be the response from the council, in other words ‘wait until someone is killed’.

With that approach, it'll take a lot of tragedies before we get to have a safe and walkable route around where we live.
