THE front-page story (Dad’s Call for Action, SAM February 4) highlighted the problems pedestrians face at busy traffic junctions, as at the traffic lights at Eastway.

I would like to bring to your attention another dangerous junction where traffic offences are committed in rush hour; the junction of Stamford Brook Road and Manchester Road, West Timperley.

Motorists are impatient and do not abide by the Highway Code.

Traffic travelling from Altrincham towards the direction of Sale stopping in the yellow box junction.

Traffic on Stamford Brook Road heading towards Manchester Road, enter the right hand lane to turn right towards Altrincham and then immediately turn left into Manchester Road towards Sale.

This is often to avoid the long queue of traffic, patiently waiting to join the main road.

These motorists cause problems for the pedestrians crossing Manchester Road, they have to weave in between parked cars on the crossing or to avoid cars turning left into the junction.

The Green Man on the crossing is clearly displayed but drivers ignore the traffic signs and road markings.

The council say it’s a matter for the police to deal with, the police say it’s not a priority and do not deal with the issue.

Trafford Council should have a traffic camera erected, monitored 24/7 and issue fixed penalty tickets for the traffic offences committed by irresponsible drivers.

Police officers cannot be at Eastway or Stamford Brook Road every day, morning and evening. The static traffic camera(s) can bring in extra revenue to the borough.

Some of the drivers on the roads of Trafford will have no licence, no insurance or even be disqualified from driving.

Good on Steve Harrop to bring these issues to the notice of the people of Trafford.
