WE have been sent a consultation paper on plans to cut six per cent from the public health budget,
In Trafford that would mean a cut of about £600,000 which will have a seriously detrimental effect on the public health services we deliver in the borough.
Services which includes dealing with the growing demand on alcohol related illnesses, smoking prevention and tackling obesity and which is a major issues particularly in young people, school nursing service, unwanted pregnancies, children’s mental health services and many other important services.
This will only leave many services unable to cope and put further pressure on already hard hit council services
This cut will cost the NHS much more than it saves.
Public health is about preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting good health
We totally agree with the statement by the BMA chair Dr Mark Porter that these cuts will leave services 'gutted'.
