IN response to 'stay in bed if you're retired', (July 23).

The 'retired age group' often have commitments to others during the day, thus having to participate in early morning swims, etc. ie looking after our grandchildren during the day so that our sons/daughters can go to work and doing voluntary work which is unpaid and often keeps many work places afloat.

Therefore we are not able to 'stay in bed', nor would we want to. I personally have worked hard since leaving school and have never claimed benefits of any sort and feel that, having recently retired, it should be my decision on how I choose to spend my time and not be dictated to by others.

We may not have to go to work but that does not mean we do not have important and worthwhile things to do during the day.

Certainly .
