ST Andrew's United Reformed Church in Scarborough is celebrating its 150th anniversary and, as church historian, I am trying to find out more about the original financial backers who donated money to the building committee.

The original subscribers' record books shows that one of these generous people lived in Bowdon, and I should like to know more about him if possible.

Why did he choose to support a church in Scarborough? Did he come here on holiday or was he a member of the local Congregational church, because St Andrew's was originally South Cliff Congregational Church?

Eventually, the names and details of the people I manage to trace will become part of our church archive, with acknowledgements to the people who supply the information.

I am seeking information about a Mr Thompson , of Bowdon, who gave £5, a not inconsiderable sum then.

If anyone has any information, contact me on churchhistorian@btinternet.com. The church's website is scarborough-urc.org.uk.
