COMMENTING on the letter from Jean Peters regarding the proposal for an eruv in Hale Barns, may I make the following comments.

Many Jewish families live in this area, as do many people of other religions or no religion at all.

We acknowledge each others differences and meet and enjoy their company in many places on good neighbourly terms.

In Hale Barns, a menorah is erected annually in December at the M56 roundabout for a Jewish festival. But no Christian cross or any symbol of other faiths is erected there at any of their festivals. Why not ?

A temporary cross was removed from the tower of a local church at Christmas because it offended the Jewish community.

What a pity.

A mix of races and faiths makes an interesting, outward looking society.

Some years ago, a family of Kosovan refugees expressed amazement to see Jewish families openly walking along Hale Road to the synagogue in Hale Barns.

Such an open display of the Jewish faith was unheard of in their homeland. And you know what happened there.

We don't want walls of any kind. This is not Israel.

We may not have the same religion or opinions as our neighbours but we can all extend the right hand of fellowship.

That is the way to live peaceably with one another.
