A LABOUR council would spend money we haven’t got providing things we cannot afford and, in the end, that would destroy Trafford’s finances as quickly as it did Britain’s economy when Labour last held power.

OK, let’s not make cuts, let’s provide everything for everybody and watch what happens to the borough’s finances with massive council tax rises necessary and a worsening debt that could quickly stampede the horses.

Unpleasant decisions are having to be made but, if watching the borough become effectively bankrupt is one way to provide what Labour obviously wants, then who am I to argue?

If we can’t, in reality, afford what we’d like to provide within Trafford, but keep providing it despite a rapidly worsening economic situation, then, sooner or later, the wheels are going to come off in spectacular fashion.

I must have been off school the day they taught that if you have a set income, be it a home or a council, you can spend more than that amount on a regular, almost constant basis!
