WHAT sort of message is this Tory council sending out to our young people in Trafford with the closure of our youth centres based in Partington, Davyhulme, Lostock, Sale West, Broomwood, Old Trafford and Gorse Hill Studios, also the Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre and our outdoor education team and our street based youth work teams.

The message is this: the Tory council does not value young people in Trafford.

Hundreds of children aged from13 to 19 will be quite ruthlessly denied access to youth services.

Figures show that this year, the numbers of contacts the youth service has with young people is increasing month by month.

Young people need youth services now more than ever. The service is too valuable to young people to lose.

Youth services support young people’s personal development, give them a meaningful role in society and provide positive ways for young people to spend their time.

Qualified youth workers and youth support workers provide real value to our communities and they know that cuts to youth services will lead to increased poverty, higher youth unemployment and in some cases crime.

These factors will have a detrimental knock-on effect in our communities.

The cuts in services have gone out to consultation. Please support our young people and oppose the cuts in our youth service
