I READ with interest the letter from the Byrom Street resident regarding the inefficiency of the rubbish collection system within Trafford.

The council says it sent out a questionnaire which resulted in the present ridiculous system whereby garden and food waste is collected weekly, household waste fortnightly and others monthly.

The main reason for this regime has nothing to do with what residents want but is a cost saving measure as it is cheaper to collect food and garden waste for recycling than it is to collect household waste.

This scheme has obviously been dreamt up not by those residing in the real world but by accountants ,or as most people would term them, clerks.

The only people who benefit by the present scheme are those with large gardens who throw away 90 per cent of the food they buy for their family of 10 or more.

I would suggest that the average rational person in Trafford would be unable to fill the green bin in four weeks, let alone one.

However, with the incessant amount of junk mail, paper wrappings, cardboard boxes and newspapers, the blue bin is certainly full in four weeks

With the limitations on the type of plastic one can put in the black bin, which is totally stupid, as in Europe you can put any plastic to be recycled, the grey bin quickly is filled.

I would like to see Trafford send out a questionnaire to every household regarding frequency of bin collection, publishing the result and abiding by the decision of the residents.
