I AM appalled to learn that Trafford Council may demolish the historic St Paul’s Vicarage on Springfield Road, Sale, a Merchants House built in the 1840s.

The house faces and enjoys glorious views of the Bridgewater Canal, with a quaint stable block on Springfield Road – such a severe loss to local history.

I think this must be one of the oldest houses in the centre of Sale.

What are the conservation people, the Ashton and Sale History Society doing about the continual loss of our built heritage?

Has this Conservative council no regard for our heritage, history or traditions?

Many years ago I was in the Rose Queen retinue on the terrace in front of the Vicarage.

It is such a lovely and historic house and should be saved.
