RE: Joanna Rankin’s letter on behalf of Age UK.

I resent the way Joanna commented on my earlier letter to you.

My mother did go to Age UK, and had a terrible time there but I do not wish to start an open forum suffice to say.

I wrote the letter to Messenger wanting to congratulate the people at Later Life Living day care centre (who are also obviously trained in ‘demetia care’) and to suggest an idea that doctors should hold a list of the local day care facilities on offer to give us a choice.

Age UK only appears to recommend its own services, which is a shame.

It should be proactive in promoting all services on offer, openly and gladly, if they really want to help us carers.

I am sure that Age UK day care groups work well for some people, but I also think they could do well to visit Later Life Living and take a page out of its book.

Can we carers be allowed to make positive comments about local services without the likes of Age UK etc jumping on the bandwagon to yet again promote themselves?

They do not have the monopoly.
