I READ with approbation your front page report about Martin Chandler rescuing an unnamed cyclist from the Bridgewater Canal in Timperley.
A very brave and unselfish act and he definitely saved that man’s life.
But wait, the health and safety brigade in the shape of a North West Ambulance Service spokesman says he should not have even tried to save the poor man, he should have waited for the emergency services.
What, and just watched him drown face down?
Notwithstanding that Martin is the Trafford Rowing Club junior coach and presumably well trained in rescue techniques from water but wouldn’t we all have done our best for the victim without thinking too much about it first?
Where has the national backbone gone and how much more are these people going to preach at us to be ultra cautious and selfish by looking too much at our own safety first?
