I AM a member of The Orders and Medals Research Society and as such collect medals issued to aircrew during the Second World War.

I am currently researching the late Flying Officer Stanley Antony Mills, a 21-year-old pilot attached to 92 Squadron who sadly died while flying his Spitfire into a wooded hillside in Austria on November 9 1946, while on patrol.

His family lived in Northenden Road, Sale Moor, during the war and I wondered if anyone knew him or his family?

One of the puzzles on his short life is the Commonwealth War Graves Commission state on their website that his father was Frederick Dennis, while his mother is named as Roderick Jamieson Mills, which cannot be correct?

His family were issued with his campaign medals which consisted of the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence and War Medal.

92 Squadron were located in Italy and Sicily during 1944-45 and then Austria post war, so he must have been attached to another squadron in order to have been issued with that combination of medals.
