IN 1914 Brownie Guides were formed to complete the range of age groups for girls in Scouting. They were first run by Lord Baden-Powell’s younger sister.

To celebrate the Brownies’ 100th Birthday this year, a badge has been designed for Brownies to make their own decisions, develop new skills and celebrate 100 years of the Guide Movements biggest section.

This comes with a specially designed badge. One of the challenges which has been taken up by 10th Altrincham Brownies is to write a letter explaining why they enjoy Brownies.

From Trinity, aged 10, 10th Altrincham Brownies

"I have loved being a part of Brownies for the past two years. It has been a great experience as I have been learning as well as having a lot of fun.

"It has been fun playing the games with my school friends and also new friends I have met here at Brownies. My favourite game to play is probably ‘Eggs for Breakfast’ because everybody has a go at running round when the person ‘on’ says ‘Eggs for Breakfast’ and everyone runs round. It is fun at the end because I always take my friends home.”

From Isabel, aged 10, 10th Altrincham Brownies

"I enjoy Brownies because I like going on the Brownie Pack holidays.

"My favourite thing about pack holiday is that you get to cook and share a room with two or three of your friends but it’s also fun doing all the activities and being able to have hot chocolate or warm milk before bed.

"My favourite thing is earning all the badges. I am trying to earn my book lover badge."
