I WOULD like to respond to some points made by David Olliver about the construction of Altrincham Interchange (“Speed up bus site” – Sale and Altrincham Messenger Readers’ Letters, January 30).

In response to Mr Olliver’s comments about an apparent lack of activity, since the demolition of the original bus station last year, significant sub-surface works has been taking place including drainage and foundation works which are not immediately obvious to passers-by.

These works are common on most major construction projects.

That is set to change with steelwork due to be erected which should provide a much greater visual indication of the good progress we are making.

Work on the bus and rail areas of the interchange is taking place concurrently.

Significant progress has been made on both of these areas and the overall project is due to be brought into operational use by the end of 2014.

Observers may have noted that much progress has also been made on Stamford New Road and the majority of that work was complete before Christmas.

I hope this addresses Mr Olliver’s concerns.

We will continue to provide updates on progress and what to expect in the coming months.
