St Paul's vicarage is part of our history

SIMON Barnes’s scathing comments regarding St Paul’s vicarage (Messenger, September 26) require a response.
The original Messenger article clearly defines that the facade facing Springfield Road is the rear of the building – and perhaps for its purpose could be considered quite elegant.
The article clearly illustrates the true front of the house, showing the attractive, classical design of its period.
The building retained, adjacent to the children’s intended play area, could be considered, with its history, heritage, style and association with a famous architect, as part of our future citizens’ cultural education and recognition of Sale’s beginnings.
