Search for the family of Pilot Officer Barry Waltham, from Sale
11:15am Thursday 29th August 2013 in Your Letters
I AM hoping some of you readers may be able to assist.
I am a member of a small group planning to have a memorial unveiled for the crews of two Halifax aircraft of 518 Squadron, RAF, which collided over the airfield at Tiree on the August 16, 1944.
Unfortunately, all 16 crew members were killed but we are hoping to trace the relatives of the two crews.
One of those who died was Pilot Officer Barry Waltham Smith, of Sale, Cheshire.
He was the son of Eric and Doris Smith of Sale.
We would like to inform the family and friends of our plans for the ceremony which will take place in August 2014.
I would be delighted if anyone can provide assistance with this matter.
My hobby is researching and writing about the west and north of Scotland in the Second World War and I am always pleased to hear from anyone with information on this part of the country in wartime.
If you have any information on he subject, please email email@example.com.
