RE: Proposed building of ASDA food store and fuel station.
I wish to object to the above as I feel that Altrincham as a whole is well catered for in the food store and fuel station area.
Within one mile of the proposed site there is Waitrose, Aldi, two Nisa stores plus one small individual shop. Within Altrincham town centre (approximately two miles away) there is a large Tesco, Sainsburys, Marks and Spencer and Iceland, plus Altrincham Market on certain days.
It is only a short while ago that planning was refused for a Lidl store in Broadheath as residents felt it was not necessary to have another food store.
Within two miles of the proposed site there are three fuel stations (which also sell certain foods etc) and ASDA has only recently opened a fuel station on Marsland Road, Sale which is approximately 10 minutes drive away.
I agree, it will probably increase employment to a certain degree but all food stores which are already in and around Altrincham have wiped out most individual traders.
There is now only one butcher in Timperley, one in Hale, one in Sale Moor and two in Ashton on Mersey. There is now only one greengrocer in Ashton Village and one in Sale Moor – none in Sale, Timperley or Broadheath.
Does Trafford Council want to kill off all small traders?
My other reason for objection is the amount of increased traffic which no doubt will use Dairyhouse Lane for easy access from the Stamford Brook housing estate. Does the planning department work alongside the highways department when a project of this nature is put forward? I am beginning to think not.
Come on planners get your act together and don’t be bullied by the giant corporations.
