What's wrong with us that we still have beggars on the streets of Sale?

First published in Your Letters

I NIPPED into Sale town centre to do a bit of shopping on Monday and was really pleased about how busy and vibrant the town was.

But my joy was shortlived when I spotted a man basically begging outside one of the supermarkets.

What’s wrong with our society that in the 21st century, we still have people who are forced to beg in the midst of such affluence?

These people must be claiming some kind of benefit,so why beg in the street.

because they make good money at it and you can carry on collecting benefits.

Have you watched Slum Dog Millionaire, don't think that is not happening here as well.

He wouldn't be there if he didn't make money out of it. It is probably spent on drugs or alcohol - this is normally the route to homelessness.

A while ago there was a beggar in sale outside the co-op and the taxi rank , after his shift was finished,he climbed into his mondeo which was parked in the carpark which is now a multi-storey and a block of flats.

He must off made a mint. Good luck to him.

Whose fault is it? his for making money? Or the general public for giving it?
