Passengers continued to face disruption today as a hangover from sudden storms yesterday saw more travel problems.
Thousands of people were affected by delays and cancellations on busy commuter routes yesterday as the weather took a turn for the worse.
There were seven cancellations to services by First Great Western today "due to poor weather conditions earlier", its website said.
South West trains said their engineers had worked through the night to avoid further delays.
" Our teams continued to work through the night to ensure that trains and train crew are in the correct positions to enable us to operate our full timetable from the start of service on this morning," they said in a statement.
The Met Office said that, while there is a risk of rain today the weather is not likely to be as turbulent as yesterday.
Forecaster Simon Partridge said: "No weather warnings have been issue but there is a chance of a few thundery, heavy showers in the south east of England again today."
This weekend is seen as one of the busiest of the year for travellers as the great summer holiday getaway begins.
