Two held after pensioner found dead
Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after police searching for a missing pensioner discovered a body at her home.
Cynthia Beamond, 80, from Howley Grange in Halesowen, West Midlands, was reported missing after she was last seen on Friday morning.
West Midlands Police said the body, which has not been formally identified, was found after an "extensive and thorough search" of Mrs Beamond's home.
A 23-year-old woman and 32-year-old man are being held on suspicion of murder.
Detective Superintendent Tim Bacon said: "Mrs Beamond's property has been searched by specialist officers in a bid to preserve as much evidence as possible.
"We continue to support Cynthia's family at this time and they have been kept fully updated of these developments."
A post-mortem examination will be carried out "at the earliest opportunity", police said.
Detectives are appealing for information to locate Mrs Beamond's car, a silver Vauxhall Astra with the registration T419 MDA.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
Neighbours of Mrs Beamond, who lived in a semi-detached house at the head of a cul-de-sac, described her as someone who was always willing to help others.
Two police officers were guarding the property today and forensic experts had covered an area outside the front door with a blue tent.
A woman whose home looks out towards the pensioner's property said: "I have known her for the last 25 years and she's a lovely lady, you couldn't meet a better person.
"She was there for everybody and she was still doing voluntary work at her age. She was willing to do anything for anyone."
The neighbour, who asked not to be identified, added: "We saw the police car in the cul-de-sac on Friday night and my husband asked them if they needed any help.
"We just can't believe what has happened."
Another local resident, who declined to give her name, said: "When I saw the police I thought perhaps there has been a break-in but when I saw all this I gathered it was more than that.
"It's such a shame that someone has been found dead."
