A "Caution: Roadworks" sign might have to appear on Coronation Street after stars reportedly complained about the safety of the cobbles at the soap's new set.

Stars including Michelle Keegan and Kym Marsh have complained that the latest version of the famous Manchester terraced street is hard to walk down in high heels, according to the Sun.

It also claimed older stars feared falling and hurting themselves.

A show spokeswoman told the paper: "With any building project you are going to have snags that need sorting out. We're across this one."

The long-running ITV show unveiled its new home in Salford Quays last November and filming started there earlier this year.

The new set is based close to the BBC's northern HQ and is the fifth interpretation of the celebrated street.

It took around 3,000 workers more than two years to create.

The street is actually 2.5ft wider than the previous set to allow cars to pass more easily.

Of the 400,000 bricks used on the lot, 144,000 of them were reclaimed from a derelict row of properties in Salford.
