Urmston Chess Club kicked off the season with visit to newly promoted rivals Chorlton IV.
Urmston started well enough with a quick win on the bottom board, before Chorlton rallied taking the next two. A couple of blunders by Urmstons no.3 left them trailing 3-1 with the two players still in action.
Urmston top player Denis Horton ground out an endgame win but Keith Johnston had to settle for a draw.
Final Score Chorlton 3.5 Urmston 2.5.
