Having avoided relugation last season on points difference, Urmston Chess Club are having a storming season, sitting in second place behind League leaders and Champions for the last 2 years Three C’s of Oldham, who were the visitors this week.

As expected the match was a tight affair with 3C’s boasting FIDE master Adam Ashton on top board. Board 2 provided the surprise of the night when the visitng player offered a draw after just 6 moves. The strength of th visitors was illustrated with wins in games 3 and 4. Captain Denis Horton, had a tactical plan which paid hansome dividends, with Urmston getting 3 straight victories on the bottom boards.

Urmstons No.1 secured the teams victory with a fine draw against FIDE master.

Final Score 4 – 3, and with 3 games left Urmston have one eye on the silverware.
