Ice Hockey - Manchester Phoenix 3-1 Telford Tigers
10:28am Tuesday 25th September 2012 in Trafford Sport By Kyle Green
NORWEIGAN winger Joachim Flaten calmed home nerves with a brace of goals to lead Manchester Phoenix past Telford on Sunday Phoenix, who were humiliated 8-2 in Milton Keynes on Saturday night, bounced back for their first home win of the new season.
Flaten broke a 0-0 tie late in the second period with a snap shot goal through the legs of the impressive Tigers netminder Declan Ryan, as the Phoenix offence struggled to bury chances once again at home.
Michal Psurny added a second goal midway through the final period before Telford pulled a goal back through Luke Brittle leaving the home fans nervous.
But in the final minute, as Telford were desperate for an equalizer, Flaten struck his second of the night with a close range finish.
Phoenix player coach Tony Hand said: “We were punished for some basic mistakes on Saturday, but we were determined to come back stronger.
“We are consistently outshooting the opposition, but we need that killer touch in front of the goal to convert the chances we create.
“But confidence is still high in the locker room, and tonight’s win will hopefully be the boost we need to kick-start the season.”
