TRAFFORD Community Leisure Trust welcomed Olympic silver medal winner Steve Cram to its George H Carnall Leisure Centre in Davyhulme recently.
After taking part in a short question and answer session with staff and partners of the Leisure Trust, Steve headed into the sports hall to get involved in a Trafford school sports event organised by the trust’s Sport Trafford team.
Several schools from the borough took part in a number of athletic oriented events such as agility sprints, target throws and long jumps.
With all the events complete the number crunching began to discover the winners.
Steve took a question and answer session with the children. During the session he outlined his surprise that his British records for the 800m and 1500m were still in tact as well as his European 1 mile record.
Steve said: “A large reason why my records still remain is the interest in running and athletics is not the same as when I was younger, other sports like football are far more popular and there simply isn’t the pool of young athletes there to achieve great things in the sports of athletics.”
The final scores revealed Ashton on Mersey were the winners and Steve was delighted to present the school with the winners trophy, pictured.
The event was funded by Yorkshire Bank, who Steve is an ambassador for.
