Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI 115 all out beat Ashley CC – 1st XI – 51 all out

AFTER two weeks lost to the weather, Ashton-on-Mersey returned to action with an emphatic win over Ashley at the Beets.

Being asked to bat on a pitch which was hard to read after the rain of the previous days, Ashton on Mersey found runs hard to come by once the Ashley bowlers found their line and length.

Once openers Steve Hart (25) and Antony Roscow (15) had gone, the normally solid middle order of Ashton-on-Mersey failed to fire, with the home team slumping from 54-2 to 85-7.

Mo Asad (25) and Mike Roberts took the total past the 100 mark before Roberts was run out with the score on 111.

Ashton-on-Mersey finished on 115 with Nadeem Alam recording figures of 3-22 off 16 excellent overs.

In reply the Ashley innings never got going. Alex Hewet removed both openers before Joel Harris trapped the dangerous Ash Bradshaw lbw to leave Ashley on 14-3.

The innings never recovered and the visitors were dismissed for 51. Pick of the bowlers was Hewet who finshed with the remarkable figures of 5 wickets for 7 runs off 15 overs.

Ashton take 25 points from the game to maintain their hopes of promotion.

The Ashton on Mersey 2nd XI lost by 17 runs in a low scoring game at Ashley. The hosts were bowled out for 101 (Lee Heap 5-39, Rob Hedge 4-13) but Ashton-on-Mersey failed to chase down the total on a difficult pitch, falling to 84 all out.
