Altrincham Kersal win Madrid tournament

IN their recent tour to Spain, AK took part in a four team tournament organised by the Madrid Lions, who they played in the first game.

In a tight first half, AK led by 12 – 7 with tries from Jon Bishop and JP Singleton who also kicked a conversion.

In the second half, though, it was all AK as they ran out winners by 39 – 7, with further tries from JP Singleton (2), Jon Bishop, Steve Richardson and Matt Hulse, one of which was converted by JP Singleton.

That put AK into the tournament final against a touring team from Oxford, who had earlier beaten a French team.

The final turned out to be quite a feisty match but AK were always in control as they ran out worthy 20 – 0 winners to take the tournament trophy.

AK’s tries in the final were scored by Jon Bishop, Tony O’Connor, James Singleton and Nathan Bailey.

Training for next season will start in early July and AK always welcomes new players for their senior men’s and women’s teams. Likewise for their mini and junior teams ranging from Under 7s through to Under 19s. Check out the AK website for further details.
