Brooklands hold on against Bollington

BROOKLANDS Cricket Club could not build on their victory over Heaton Mersey last week, and drew with Bollington CC at the weekend.

Australian batsmen Michael Rixon was Bollington’s hero, after the opener scored 114 before being dismissed with the score at 168-5.

Rixon’s century came in spite of batting on a wet wicket, following Brooklands’ captain Dave Madden opting to bowl after winning the toss.

The visitors finished on 204-9.

A draw seemed inevitable with Brooklands’ innings at 53-3, but the wickets kept falling to give Bollington thoughts of wrapping up the victory.AJ Hart’s 48 rescued Brooklands from defeat however and the home side finished on 139-9, claiming just six points to the visitors’ 14, leaving them in eighth place in the league.

They will look to return to winning ways in their next game against Cheadle Hulme, who sit one spot higher than Brooklands.
