Timperley edged by Stockport

TIMPERLEY CC suffered their third league defeat in a row, losing by 13 runs in hosting Stockport CC, a team (though weaker on that day) they had beaten emphatically in a cup fixture just six days previously.

Timperley won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening bowlers Chris Page (0-22 off 13) and Matt Macquet (1-27 off 7) made a reasonable start with the first wicket falling on 29.

Stockport batted steadily, highlighted by opening batsmen George Barber, 55, who was eventually bowled by Craig Grindley (3-68 off 18). Craig’s efforts were backed up by brother Ian Grindley (2-31 off 12) as Stockport chalked up a competitive score of 153 for 7.

Craig then followed his bowling up with the bat, top scoring Timperley’s innings with 54. A partnership started to grow with Kiwi Macquet (25) but was ended with the score on 62 by Mark Green. Green’s bowling was unmatched as he ripped through Timperley’s middle order, finishing with 6-30 off 13.

Some hope came for Timperley as captain Stephen Bramhall (11) and Page (12) battled towards the target, but an inspired change saw Jesse Greenwood (2-0 off 1.1) get them both LBW, leaving Timperley 13 runs short.

Stockport 25 points for the win. Timperley three bowling and one batting point.
