Trafford Metro swimmers set new world relay records

TRAFFORD Metro swimmers set two world relay records at the Masters British Championships in Sheffield.

The mixed 4x100m freestyle team, combined age 160-199 years - Alec Johnson, Helen Sadler, Lucy Lloyd Roach and Steve Harding set a new world best with a time of 4:03.70, with Alec setting an individual British record of 58.57 seconds on his leg.

More success was to follow for the 4x200 women’s freestyle combined age 100-119 years, who smashed the previous world record by over 15 seconds. Emma Ross, Becky Lennon, Laura Bowden and Lucy Lloyd Roach combined to secure the new world best of 9:23.95.

Helen Sadler, 41, claimed no less than six gold medals in a very successful weekend for the club, in which they won 19 gold, 13 silver and four bronze from a team of just 13 swimmers.

Trafford Metro secured third place overall to London clubs Otter and Spencer, and this performance will give them encouragement in the build up to the short course national championships in October.
