AFC Quarry were crowned Division One champions on Wednesday following a thumping 1-5 win away at Sale United.

Mike Fitzgerald (2), Adam Hedges, James Pearce and Martin Long (penalty) all got their names on the scoresheet to give their side an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Saturday’s 2-3 victory against Sale Rovers stretched Quarry’s unbeaten league run to 17matches and increased the gap between themselves and runners-up Atlantic FC to five points.

Elsewhere in the top flight, sixth-placed Sale Town picked up just one point from their three matches last week after losing against Wilmslow Sports (1-3) and Sale Rovers (0-2) and drawing with Salford AFC (4-4). Knutsford FC thrashed Kartel Sports 5-1 on Wednesday while at the weekend, Sale Amateurs came out 4-1 winners against Egerton FC to keep their hopes of finishing in third spot alive and Sale United bounced back from their mid-week defeat to earn a impressive 1-3 win away at Wilmslow Sports.

Old Alts have been awarded three points as their opponents, Broadheath Central JFC ‘A’, failed to fulfil the scheduled fixture at the weekend.

Meanwhile in Division Two, Unicorn Athletic concluded their campaign with a 2-6 defeat against Irlam FC on Monday and a 3-3 draw with APFC at the weekend. The latter result ensures that they will finish in ninth place.

The Broadheath Central Cup final between Irlam FC and Broadheath Central FC was postponed on Friday and will now be played on Friday 18th May (7:30 KO).
