Diamond on a recruitment drive

SALE Sharks’ chief executive Steve Diamond confirmed after the Kingsholm game that his search for a director of rugby is continuing.

Diamond is reported to have interviewed several prominent candidates with outstanding track records within the game, and was asked in Gloucester’s media centre about Bryan Redpath joining the list. Redpath, a former Sharks scrum half and captain, resigned from his post at Gloucester early last week, following a disappointing run and speculation within the West Country city had since been rife.

Diamond said, “Up until the speculation, we’d had no conversations with Bryan Redpath. I’ve spoken with his agent, since he resigned from Gloucester, but up until then there was nothing – no contact, and that’s unequivocal.

“I think Bryan has got interviews in Munster and possibly Bath, so he’s got a busy agenda in front of him. If he’s available and wants to come to Manchester, then we’re going to speak to him.”

Messenger understands that any announcement will not be made until the season has finished. The Sharks’ final fixture is on Saturday week, at home to Harlequins.
