THE Altrincham Sunday League Challenge Cup took centre stage on Sunday (Feb 19) as five of the remaining second tound ties took place.

CS Sports eased their way into the quarter finals with a convincing 6-0 win at home to Longhey Athletic with Theo Thompson and Carlos Rouse both bagging a brace and now go on to face Timperley Bigshorts in the next round. Broadway Brook came from 2-1 down to beat Buck Inn 3-2 in a very entertaining game with two goals coming in the last fifteen minutes from Kyle Denton.

Bricklayers Arms beat fellow First Division side Washway Celtic 1-0 to set up a mouth watering quarter final against first division rival FC Navigation. The last two cup games of the day saw Navigation Bay beat Ashton United 6-0 and Sale FC ran out 2-1 winners against Urmston Meadowside.

With the top four sides in the Premier Division involved in cup action there were only three league games in the top division Bird Ithand held Trafford FC at home to a 1-1 draw while Paul Bell and Kevin Kavanagh were among the goals in Partington Village’s 6-0 win at home over Pelican. Timperley Bigshorts good run came to an end with defeat away at Partington WMC losing 3-0.

Second place FC Navigation moved three points closer to Leaders Bricklayers Arms with an 8-0 victory in the first division. Nathan Towey bagged five goals against bottom side King Street FC as East Levenshulme won 9-1, in the final game in the division Altrincham Hale and Showmans shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
