WILMSLOW Sports and AFC Quarry both booked their place in the last four of the ADAFL Cup at the weekend but the other two quarter-final ties were postponed. Wilmslow came out 1-3 winners away at Sale Amateurs while last season’s beaten finalists Quarry hammered Sale Town 4-0. Jon Lowe, Michael Fitzgerald, Arron Ewing (penalty) and James Greaves all got their names on the scoresheet to move their side one step closer to redemption in the competition. Knutsford FC’s meeting with Broadheath Central FC and Unicorn Athletic’s tie against Irlam FC will both be played at a later date.

Meanwhile in Division One, league leaders Atlantic FC took advantage of their rivals’ cup ventures to move six points clear at the top of the table. A comfortable 0-4 win away at bottom side Old Alts, inspired by a man-of-the-match display from the in-form Dave Jones, stretched their run of consecutive league wins to nine matches. Veteran striker Jamie Ford bagged a brace for the table toppers with Ian Grey and Adam Beckford chipping in with a goal apiece. In the one other game played in the top flight, Egerton FC scored late on against Sale Rovers to snatch a 2-2 draw on their travels. Goals from James Russell and Michael Morris had earlier brought Rovers from a goal behind, however, the home side were unable to hold out for all three points.

In Division Two, just one of the four scheduled matches went ahead as APFC defied their inferior league position to earn a morale boosting 0-3 win away at Baroni FC. Cornishman United, who were set to travel to PFC Academy, have resigned from the league and their record has consequently been expunged from the standings.
