BROOKLANDS’ third XI’s long journey to Langley CC in the Cheshire League Division B East will only be remembered for one thing.

It was a quite stunning show by 15-year-old Max Yarwood, who took five wickets in five consecutive balls to set up an eight-wicket win for the Bears.

Langley won the toss and elected to bat but a wicket maiden followed by a double-wicket maiden for skipper Andy Batty (3-27) ensured they got off to a flying start, Langley finding themselves 36-3 from just six overs.

Opener Hughes had looked comfortable at the crease before Yarwood (5-15) came into the attack.

His fourth over – the innings’ 12th over – saw the game come alive.

With the first ball he clean bowled Curtin, then he rattled the pads of Srivastava for an lbw. Another lbw gave Yarwood his hat-trick but he was not finished yet.

Ball number four was full and accurate enough to rattle the stumps of Spencer, and Whiskard followed him back to the pavilion after the next ball, which sent his stumps flying.

Credit goes to Langley tail-ender Laughton, who dug out a straight, accurate yorker that ended a remarkable over.

Hughes began to tee off before Chris Mitchell (1-23) and Ben Myddleton (1-20) finished the innings off inside 24 overs.

The 112 was then chased down with just eight wickets left.

The first XI lost at home to Romiley, who put up 221-9 then bowled out the hosts for 132.
