SALE got back to winning ways in a low-scoring encounter at Bollington, recovering from 59-6 to record a 38-run win in Division One of the Cheshire County League.

Search-sponsored Sale were asked to bat first on a bowler-friendly wicket and found themselves in trouble at 19-3.

Tyrone Lawrence (28) and Keith Wellings (14) added 43 for the fourth wicket to steady the Sale innings, before the loss of three wickets for three runs left Sale on the brink at 59-6.

Ryan Burgess (45) and Ben Watkins (36) then put together the match-winning partnership, adding 84 for the seventh wicket. Both fell in the search for quick runs in the closing overs as Sale closed on 144-8.

In reply the home team found scoring equally difficult as Lawrence took two early wickets.

Jack Ward added 29, but, as in the first innings, three wickets fell for three runs – Rich Adams taking all three in a fine spell of 3-22 – to reduce Bollington to 47-5.

Lawrence took two more wickets to take the score to 81-7, finishing with 4-39. Leg-spinner Rick Halkon then mopped up the tail with 3-26 as Bollington were bowled out for 106.

Sale’s second XI suffered an agonising defeat by just three runs at home to Warrington.

Sale asked the visitors to bat first, dismissing them for 207 in the final over, Gareth Watterson and Siyan Siraj taking four wickets apiece.

In reply Sale looked well set for victory, only to be bowled out for 204 with seven overs to go.

Watterson completed a fine all-round performance with 56, while Matt Wilson hit 40 and Siraj 39.

On Sunday the third XI lost a high-scoring game at Marple.

The home side batted first, declaring on 266-5 in the 42nd over, Viraj Sorathia and Ian Habershon taking two wickets each.

In reply, Sale recovered from 19-5 thanks to a 131-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Sandeep Yadala (66) and Asad Khan but they were dismissed for 204.

The fourth XI lost by eight wickets to visitors Urmston while the Silverbacks suffered a narrow defeat to Whalley Range, who won the over-40s match on the last ball.
