ALTRINCHAM Kersal can reflect on a hugely successful weekend with all three senior sides victorious on Saturday.

The firsts won a feisty home affair 25-17 against local rivals, and fellow North One West strugglers, Manchester RUFC.

The first half's bitter exchanges from both teams culminated in a highly contentious red card for Kersal's in-form kicker Dave Coleman and Manchester went in at half time 14-3 up.

Kersal played the second half with a conviction and determination of a team more worthy of a much higher league position, notable performances coming from backs Matt Geiger and Sam Moncur.

And they moved ahead, thanks to tries from Callum Yates, Jon Coulson, Andy Frost and a penalty try.

With just three games to go, this win could prove to be the most important of the season as they fight to avoid relegation.

The seconds continued their successful season in Division Two South with a 39-9 win at Holmes Chapel.

In another dominant performance, tries from Matt Moss (two), Chris Loughlin (two), Chris Weighall and Jordan Roberts, Along with three conversions and a penalty from Paul Howarth secured victory for captain Andy Thomas's side.

Elsewhere, the thirds hosted Dukinfield and won 74-0.

There was a mixed bag of success on Sunday with the Under-17s Colts winning 17-5 at Blackburn – tries coming from Jasper Kearns, Cormac Grieves and George Walker and a conversion from Max Brookes.

This hard-fought victory extended Kersal’s winning run to seven league games, with a winner-takes-all match to come against Bowdon on April 8 to decide the title.

The U13s lost 40-25 on home soil to Trentham and the U12s also went down, 9-4 in their local derby against Sale.

There was better news for U16s trio Elliot Gourlay, Ollie Leatherbarrow and John Bailey who played for Sale Sharks' academy at Warwick School against Worcester Warriors and Bath Rugby Academy.
