TRAFFORD MV's winning run came to an end at Fleetwood when they lost 40-18.

After six successive wins, the visitors were first to draw blood in the North Lancs/Cumbria Division clash as they overcame early pressure to win a penalty which Pat Eccles slotted over easily.

A second attempt was missed and then the home side struck from a breakaway as stand-off Karl Bowling took the ball at pace on a fine angle to race away and score a try that was converted by Gavin Rowell.

Bowling was on hand minutes later as he finished off some good aggressive play to open up a 14-2 lead and things were aspiring against MV as Andy Quigley and Jack Gobbett suffered knocks which forced positional changes.

Fleetwood scored again from a quick tap which caught MV in disarray for Rowell to squirm over under the posts, converting himself.

Jon Lord narrowed the deficit for MV, scoring a try before Eccles missed the conversion.

There was then another blow as Danny Burke left the field injured.

As half time approached Fleetwood earned a bonus point, scoring their fourth try through Mike Kelly, converted by Rowell.

The second half continued as the first ended with the home side on top and Richardson made a good break which put winger Joe Kirton away to make it 33-8.

MV took some reward when right winger James Matthie used pace and power to burst away and score.

Changes were again forced for MV as Gaz Bevan was injured and Pat Eccles took a yellow card, while Fleetwood lost Bowling to a yellow for a deliberate knock on.

It was in this period that Jon Lord scored his second and MV's last try of the game.

The seasiders rounded off a good afternoon for themselves as prop Ricky Newton crashed over with Rowell closing off the game with the conversion.

MV now have a week off to recover from injuries and will be looking for a much more cohesive performance when Keswick visit MacPherson Park on Saturday week.
