MANCHESTER Storm enjoyed another maximum-point weekend after victories against Fife Flyers and Braehead last week.

Storm opened their weekend account with a 3-2 win against Fife Flyers at The Storm Shelter in front of their second consecutive full house.

The hosts were made to fight after the visitors took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter.

Storm returned to the ice and were soon level at 2-2 with goals from Dane Byers, after the Fife netminder failed to hold onto a Linden Springer shot, and Mike Hammond, who helped a Luke Moffatt effort into the net.

Man-of-the-match Scott Pitt scored the third goal and Storm were then busy in both attack and defence in equal measures as Fife tried to salvage something from the game.

Shane Bakker sat out the game, serving the second of his two-match ban, but was back in action on Sunday as the team travelled north to Braehead.

And they won in overtime thanks to a Moffatt goal 19 seconds before the buzzer which would have taken the game into a shootout.

Byers and Springer scored Storm’s two goals in normal time but it was Moffatt’s late winner that secured full game points.

Head coach Ryan Finnerty said: "Braehead made us fight for everything but my players were outstanding.

"They dug deep and, despite a procession of players from both sides being sent to the penalty box, we kept our composure and won the game.

"This group of players was carefully assembled before the season started and we wanted to be competitive.

"The group have become a very special, close-knit group who never give up and who knows what will happen with five games left in the league which includes two conference games, and then the play offs."

The back-to-back wins coupled with Cardiff losing to Sheffield means Storm gained ground on Cardiff at the top of the Elite League.

And with Guildford losing to Coventry in the Conference, Storm could actually collect some silverware if they win at Guildford this Saturday.
