BROOKLANDS MU's Flanagan brothers inspired their side to an 8-4 victory against Sevenoaks in the Men's Hockey League Premier Division last Sunday.

Captain Peter Flanagan slotted home Brooklands' first penalty corner, putting the hosts in the driving seat and he replicated this minutes later with an almost identical flick – the skipper showing the standard he wanted from all his players.

Brooklands did not let up as they powered forward and chances came with every attack.

Richard Slater deflected a ball into the roof of the net after an excellent delivery from Nick Little and after another counter attack that Sevenoaks failed to deal with, midfielder Stefan Ray Hills powered his way into the attacking D and, with an exquisite lifted pass over the goalkeeper, he found the unmarked Peter Cornel who slotted home on the volley.

Sevenoaks reduced the arrears before the interval but it was restored soon after the restart.

With the umpire about to signal a penalty corner, David Flanagan fired home.

After that, Brooklands came under sustained pressure and Sevenoaks converted two quick goals.

But Rays Hills lifted a pass over a last defender giving David Flanagan another goal to settle the nerves.

Ross Hall, from the first flick of a penalty corner, calmly slotted home on the volley from a tight angle.to make it 7-3 then the most unlikely of scorers was about to net possibly one of the best team and individuals goals of the season.

A move which started from the back found its way to Alex Humphreys in midfield.

With three players around him and midfielder Tom Lush leading through the middle of the pitch. Humphreys played a backhand flick which put the ball in the path of Lush and at full stretch he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper.

Sevenoaks did manage to get a final goal from a penalty corner but it was too little, too late.

Brooklands are on the road next week when they visit Reading.
