ALTRINCHAM Kersal recorded a 14-3 victory at home to eighth-placed Warrington in North One West last Saturday

The home side went into the lead through a gritty try from Doug Whyley, converted by Dave Coleman.

Warrington were rattled as the play was mainly dominated by the home side, with more than a few heated exchanges and the referee had to maintain discipline to calm tempers.

Warrington were awarded a penalty soon after to reduce the arrears going into half time.

Both teams started the second half as the other had ended and with the rain still lashing down, players were finding the heavy conditions difficult.

It was Kersal who had the upper hand in set-plays, while their defence was strong and they pushed the visitors back into their own territory.

Consistent pressure was duly rewarded with a great individual try from Matt Geiger before Coleman kicked the conversion to complete the scoring.

Kersal's next outing is on Saturday week at Northwich.

Meanwhile, the seconds pulled further ahead in the Halbro North West Division Two South, crushing struggling Sefton 46-6 with a great display of attacking rugby.

They ran in seven tries, four conversions and two penalties – a hat-trick of tries coming from Matt Moss, with a try apiece for Jordan Roberts, Callum Robinson, Ged Scrace and Alex Jordan.

Conversions and penalties came from the boot of Paul Howarth.

They host Didsbury Toc H seconds next on Saturday week.

The thirds completed a winning weekend for the senior sides as they beat Broughton fourths 34-14 at home.

On Sunday, the club was boosted when under-16s' captain Elliot Gourlay made his debut for Sale Sharks' academy in their 66-17 win against Worcester Warriors.

The u13s also made it into the second round of the Cheshire Junior Plate, beating Chester B U13s 25-20.
