THE Order of Merit for the Manchester and District Alliance sees consistent play over a big programme of competitions between September and May given a rich reward on President’s Day, which will be played at Davyhulme Park Golf Club on Wednesday, May 2.
The professional’s OoM is the top trophy for the Alliance winter season and also at stake will be the Assistant Professionals’ OoM and the Amateur OoM.
When the season resumes this month at Houldsworth Golf Club there will be close to another 20 competitions giving points for the respective OoM’s.
Going into the mid-season break the leader of the OoM was Craig Corrigan with 195 points from reigning champion Phil Archer (Birchwood) 136.
Archer’s appearances have been limited by other calls including playing on the winning GB and Ireland PGA Professionals’ team against the USA.
No doubt he will be looking to catch up in the busy second half of the season with plenty of other top local professionals also in the hunt for the title.
The assistant professional’s Order of Merit is also at stake and the current leader is Andy Palmer (Chorley GC) from Olly Smith (Ashton-on-Mersey).
In the Amateur OoM, sponsored by Denton professional Mike Hollingworth, the consistent Jimmy O’Reilly (Swinton Park) leads the way with 39½ points from Steve McDermott (Ashton-on-Mersey) 36, with reigning champion Vinny Doyle back in eighth with 19.
The current placings are – Professional OoM: 1st C Corrigan 198, 2nd P Archer 136, 3rd P Grannell (Vale Royal Abbey) 125, 4th A Palmer (Chorley) 108, 5th K Gaskell (Westhoughton) 102, 6th D Smith (Swinton Park) 85, 7th O Smith (Ashton-on-Mersey) 83, 8th-equal O Pantoja (Ashton-on-Mersey) 65, A Waddell (Styal) 65, 10th R O’Neill (Penwortham) 63; Amateur OoM: 1st J O’Reilly (Swinton Park) 39½, 2nd S McDermott (Ashton-on-Mersey) 36, 3rd-equal M Corfield (Swinton Park) 33½, D Smith (Ellesmere) 33½, 5th-equal R Margrave and P Traynor (Stamford) 22½, 7th L Warren (Northenden) 21, 8th V Doyle (Leigh) 19, 10th-equal R Blackwell (Mottram Hall) and K Thomson (Bramall Park) 14.
