BROOKLANDS MU men's hockey team lost 3-0 to Holcombe on another disappointing day in the Men's Hockey League Premier Division.

After a long trip to Kent, Paul Gannon made a few changes to the side with the return of some familiar faces in Dan Vincent and Pete Cornell.

The first half started in a frantic manor and Brooklands had the perfect opportunity to take the lead after a defender broke the line early on a short corner.

This meant the next play had to be defended with only three men but Holcombe held out.

The hosts went on the attack and forced a corner from which a neat, low flick beat Brooklands keeper Chris Scott.

Holcombe quashed most attacks Brooklands had with the best chance of the half falling to Aidan Khares whose backhand flew past the post.

There was another setback when when a smart finish from a Holcombe midfielder, looped over the keeper and nestled into the net from a very tight angle.

The second half started with Brooklands enjoying lots of possession in key areas but some loose attacking meant Brooklands were frustrated.

Two notable chances came from penalty corners, the first was a well-worked corner that was deflected high and just over and the second was a straight flick that clipped the outside of the post.

It was not to be for Brooklands and a breakaway goal for the hosts for GB legend Barry Middleton flew into the top corner from a tight angle.
