ALTRINCHAM Kersal Under-14s ran out 40-12 winners in a tough game with Heaton Moor at Stelfox Avenue last weekend.

Kersal had a slender 12-7 lead at half time but the boys put in a great second-half performance, running in a further four tries – Ethan Steward and Josh Whittle with a brace apiece and Max Hastings and Will Bushnell with one try each.

Fortunes were not so favourable for all the senior sides, the ladies' team and the U17s junior colts, who all suffered defeats.

On Saturday, the first XV fielded a much stronger team than of late, with a few players who had been out injured returning to the mix, against Blackburn in North One West.

Kersal played the better rugby and looked to be on course for that elusive win that would halt the run of losses.

But yet again cracks started to show and penalties conceded were punished by Blackburn's number 10's accurate kicking.

The game slipped away from the hosts and Kersal lost 34-8 – their sixth successive defeat.

The second XV were unlucky to lose 29-28 at Glossop after a tough, physical Division Two South encounter while the thirds went down 67-0 at home against Wilmslow in Division Four East.

On Sunday, the Colts travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale and although they were depleted in numbers, they gave a good account of themselves, losing 15-5.

Elsewhere, the ladies lost 56-7 at Preston Grasshoppers.

Kersal are always on the lookout for players of all ages and ability and more details are on the club's website at http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/altrinchamkersalrfc/
