LEADERS Timperley Cons fought off the strong challenge of Cringlewood to win 5-2 and maintain their position at the top of the Altrincham and Sale Round the Board Darts League.

It was their finishing power that made the difference and current least-darts holder, Ian McCulloch, equalled his best effort with another magnificent 11-dart leg.

The resurgent Budenburgs continued their winning form and beat Gardeners 5-2.

Meanwhile, second-placed Central Club played against an improving Station side and although the match ended 5-2 in their favour, it was a closer match than the scoreline suggested.

New team Old Hall have started the league with winning ways and continued on Monday with a 5½-1½ triumph against The Brigadier.

British Rail took all the points against Brooklands Tap with a 7-0 win.

Timperley Cons and Central Club are at the joint top with the Cons having a better average to put them in first place.
