LEADERS Old Stretfordians suffered a heavy defeat to fellow promotion candidates Waterloo in the game of the day in Division One of the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League last weekend.

Strets lost 8-1, allowing Waterloop to move to within a point of them at the top with two games in hand.

High-flying Milton suffered a setback as they went down 3-0 in their local derby at Bury Ams and a 4-0 win for Trafford United against Didsbury lifted them into third.

Stoconians were in seventh heaven after posting a 7-0 win at Moston Brook and also in the goals were Salford Vics with a 5-1 win against Oldham Vics, while Chorltonians won their local derby with Parrs Wood Celtic 5-3.

Didsbury seconds enjoyed their best result of the season in Division C as they were too hot for Abacus Media thirds to handle in a 9-0 win that takes them into second spot behind non-playing leaders Deans.

Moston United seconds are on the heels of the top two with games in hand after they won 5-2 at Chorltonians Athletic and Radclyffe also have a 100-per-cent record after a comfortable second win of the season, beating Stoconians thirds 6-0.

The other game saw Old Strets seconds move into mid-table security after a 5-2 win against Manchester Rovers.

There were lots of goals in Division B with leaders Salford Vics seconds taking out high-flying Hillgate 7-3.

High Lane seconds were also in lethal form with a big 8-2 derby win against Spurley Hey seconds and Rochdale Galaxy beat Trafford United seconds 6-3.

Closer contests saw Milton seconds beat Chorltonians Villa 4-3 and Dukinfield Athletic seconds and Signol Athletic thirds drew 2-2.

AFC Oldham fourths top Division D after beating Chorltonians Albion 5-2 and a 12-2 win for Stoconians fourths at Trafford United thirds takes them into second place, while Bury Ams thirds are level on points with Stocs after a 4-0 win at Old Strets thirds.

Staly Lions had their winning streak ended by AFC Stockport, who secured a 4-1 win, and Didsbury thirds were in top form in a big 8-3 derby win against Whalley Range seconds.

Moston Brook fourths brightened up the day for their club as they enjoyed a 6-3 derby win against Chadderton Park seconds.

Moorside Rangers have made a great start to life following promotion to the Premier Division and with title rivals High Lane’s game at Old Ashtonians postponed, Rangers took full advantage to establish a three-point lead and preserve their 100-per-cent record with an efficient 6-1 win at Signol Athletic.

Signol took an early lead but Rangers levelled before the break through a strike from Sixsmith in an evenly-contested first half.

But a more direct approach from Rangers paid dividends in the second period as Sixsmith completed his hat-trick and Kay added a brace.

Newton were also in hot form as they walloped Whalley Range 8-3 to move into the top four and reigning champions Mellor enjoyed a comfortable 6-1 win at Abacus Media to keep in the mix with games in hand.

South Manchester were also on fire as they enjoyed their first win of the season with a 6-1 triumph at Newton Heath.

Rob Anderson led the way for South with a hat-trick and also on target were Azuka Otutu, Tufail Balouch and Marc Critchley to lift them out of the relegation zone.

The top two in Division Two were out of action allowing Hooley Bridge Celtic to move closer to them after they beat AFC Oldham 3-1.

The same scoreline saw Mellor seconds win at Bedians and the other game was a close affair as Swinton beat Newton seconds by the odd goal in seven for their first win of the season.

Division Three leaders Dom Doyle had their game postponed and a Tameside derby saw Hollingworth move into the top three with a 5-3 victory at Dukinfield Athletic,

Rochdalians seconds were too hot for local rivals Hooley Bridge Celtic in a 6-0 cruise.

Heaton Mersey also hit six against Moston Brook seconds with the goals flowing from Rory Scott and John Hurst (two apiece), Mike Hazelhurst and Lyon Dickinson.

Brook got two deserved consolations, including the goal of the game with their stunning second.

The other game in the division ended in a 2-2 deadlock between Santos and Irlam Tigers.

Netting for Santos was keeper Johnny Lambert, with a long clearance that eluded everyone to bounce over the Tigers keeper and their point was sealed with a 25-yard drive into the corner of the net from Andrew Wade.

Signol Athletic seconds took over top spot in Division A from non-playing leaders Aldermere as they preserved their 100- per-cent record with a comfortable 8-1 win at AFC Oldham seconds.

Mellor thirds hit double figures against Moston Brook thirds and Stoconians seconds eased to a 3-1 win over Hargreaves Bury.

Moorside Rangers seconds shared four goals with visitors Abacus Media seconds with skipper Alex Moran and Alex Bardsley netting for Rangers.
