URMSTON Sports Club will be hoping for double success after they made it through to the Greater Manchester Sports Awards as Trafford Sports Club of the Year last Friday.

The club – which boasts tennis, hockey, cricket, bowls, softball and croquet – was recognised for promoting active lifestyles and inclusive sport in Trafford at an awards ceremony at Hotel Football near to Manchester United's Old Trafford home.

Hockey coach Derek Milne – runner-up in the Unsung Hero category to a coach from Stretford Vics football team – collected the award on behalf of the club alongside Olympic heptathlon gold medallist, Kelly Sotherton.

The club will now battle it out with winners from the other boroughs at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards in November.

On the same night, Trafford Sports relaunched the Trafford Active Fund to support talented athletes and community causes that help reduce inactivity in the borough.
