STRETFORD team's won four out of five games last weekend, with the first team winning a low-scoring game at Unsworth, while the second team had an excellent 58-run victory against South West Manchester.

On Sunday the Hurricanes defeated Westhoughton and the Spitfires won at South West Manchester.

Then the Hurricanes fell to a rare five-wicket defeat away to Clifton on Monday.

Meanwhile Gus Harman, Nick Walmsley and Vishal Gupta won the annual Cliff Symons trios in a six fest at Lesley Road.

At Unsworth, Stretford's first team chose to field first and it proved to be a good decision as they made inroads into the hosts' batting.

All the Stretford bowlers performed well with Oral Rankine (3-26), Benji Evans (2-18), Mark Stamper (3-27) and captain Adrian Holmes (2-13) among the wickets as Unsworth's innings finished on 85.

Although a low score, the wicket had not played very well so Stretford knew it would a tough total to pass.

It proved that way as wickets fell regularly. Captain Holmes batted for 76 balls for 23 not out, supported by Rankine (19), and took Stretford to victory by three wickets.

At home, the second team won the toss and batted first and despite the steady South West Manchester bowling, Chris Sharp (43) and Michael Tresnan (35) took Stretford to 57-0 from the first 10 overs.

After Sharp's dismissal the Stretford innings stuttered in the face of accurate spin bowling.

Veteran John Foulkes, batting a bit low down the order, came in and took the attack to South West, hitting a quickfire 42no to take the final total to 183.

The South West innings started steadily in the face of hostile bowling from 15-year-old Kamran Hussain (1-20).

Foulkes took an excellent slip catch but was injured attempting another.

Despite having only 10 men for a time, Stretford fielded well and captain Ben Riddell (5-40) bowled an accurate spell, with the support of youngster Alfie Stamper (3-19) and Mark Coulson (1-23), and South West were bowled out for 115.

On Sunday the Hurricanes bowled Westhoughton out for 129, Joe Weems picking up two early wickets and Usman Hassan taking 3-24.

The reply stuttered to 44-5, but once Keith Evans (30no) joined Shabaz Sarfraz (84) the tide turned and Stretford won by five wickets.
