TIMPERLEY’S first XI suffered double disappointment at the weekend – defeat to Cheadle in the Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division followed by a loss against Neston in the semi-final of the Cheshire Cup the following day.

In a rain-affected league game reduced to 30 overs per side, Cheadle posted 123-7, with Greg Dixon top scoring with 48. The pick of Timperley’s attack was Nathan Brown, who took 2-18 in his five overs.

Despite a valiant 48 from Grant Hodnett, Timperley’s run chase never got going and the hosts were all out for 93, Josh Dooler starring with figures of 4-28 for the victors.

On Sunday Timperley played host to Neston with both sides looking to progress to the final of the Cheshire Cup.

The home side lost the toss and were put into bat, posting 150-8 off their allotted 45 overs, Abhishek Kulkarni top scoring with 35.

Despite all of Timperley’s top five batsmen getting starts, Neston managed to restrict the visitors effectively with Ash Davis taking 5-28.

In reply, Neston sealed their place in next month’s final with victory by four wickets, Chris Hackett’s 37 off 29 balls the standout innings of the day.

There was better news for the club’s second XI who secured maximum points in their fixture against Upton.

On a wicket that proved difficult for batting, Timperley were bowled out for 167, with valuable contributions coming from opener Tom Maddocks and Rob Matthews.

However, Matt Fletcher was the star of the show with 6-20 off his 15 overs as Upton were dismissed for 142.

The weekend’s bad weather meant that the third XI’s fixture at Stockport Trinity was cancelled without a ball being bowled.
